July 28, 2010—(Trenton, NJ): Yesterday, during the Chemistry Council of New Jersey’s (CCNJ) Annual Board Planning Session, the Council announced the appointment of Brian Maurer, senior research and development director with The Dow Chemical Company, as its chairman.
CCNJ is a trade association and advocacy organization representing more than 80 member companies and the $28 billion chemistry industry, which employs more than 63,000 in New Jersey,
Mr. Maurer, who resides in Montgomery Township, NJ, has served on the CCNJ Board since 2003, when he came to New Jersey as the new site director for Dow’s New Jersey operations based in Piscataway, NJ. His global R&D group provides product R&D, application development, technical service and new business development for Dow’s Wire & Cable business. An author of seven patents, a recipient of Dow’s “Inventor of the Year Award” and a recipient of Dow’s “Genesis Award,” Mr. Maurer has had a successful career with the company spanning more than 25 years.
“We are privileged to have someone with Brian’s executive leadership experience and who has had such an illustrious career with a well respected member company, to lead our organization forward and set its strategic vision for the next two years,” said Hal Bozarth, Board secretary and executive director of the Chemistry Council of New Jersey.
Mr. Maurer succeeds Arthur Esposito of Warren Township, NJ. Esposito is senior business director with Church & Dwight, which has its US headquarters in Princeton, NJ, and served two terms as chairman of the Council, since 2006.
During Esposito’s leadership, the Council faced extraordinary challenges not limited to the failing economy impacting all business associations. Mr. Esposito successfully led an organizational review process that improved the Council’s membership services and its financial stability, ultimately ensuring that the Council remained a relevant and a respected business advocacy organization in Trenton.
“The Chemistry Council of New Jersey and its members are indebted to the strong leadership demonstrated by Chairman Esposito for the last four years,” said Hal Bozarth. “His strong business acumen and strategic leadership helped CCNJ weather the challenges of the Great Recession and has made the organization stronger than ever. And for that we are forever grateful.”
Chairman Maurer presented Mr. Esposito with a special Resolution passed by the New Jersey Legislature recognizing Mr. Esposito’s service to the Council and as an advocate for the New Jersey Business Community.
The Planning Session held in Princeton, NJ marks the start of Chairman Maurer’s tenure and serves as an opportunity for the Council’s leadership to set the strategic vision for the organization.
