    PFAS Update

    On April 10, 2024, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) finalized their National Primary Drinking Water Regulation (NPDWR) for six  per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which includes final enforceable Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) of 4.0 parts per trillion (ppt) for Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) and Perfluorooctanesulfonic Acid (PFOS).

New Jersey Chemistry: Economic Impact


Unlocking the potential of chemistry is central to over 96% of all manufactured goods, cementing its status as a cornerstone of our nation's economic landscape. This dynamic industry delivers substantial economic benefits across every state.

In New Jersey, the chemical sector reigns as the largest manufacturing industry, boasting a robust $15.48 billion valuation and securing its position as the 8th largest chemistry producer nationwide.

Employing a workforce of 48,000 individuals, including professionals in pharmaceuticals and medicine manufacturing, the chemistry companies in the state provide a robust job market. Chemical manufacturers alone contribute 19,000 direct jobs, complemented by an additional 24,471 related employment opportunities.

These chemistry industry jobs offer more than just employment; they are high-paying, with an average wage of $106,822. This figure surpasses the average manufacturing wage by 15%, underlining the financial stability provided by the sector.

Contributing significantly to the state's economy, the chemistry industry generates a staggering $2.10 billion in payroll. Additionally, it plays a pivotal role in funding public services, contributing $618 million in state and local taxes, and $604 million in federal taxes.

Beyond economic contributions, the business of chemistry in New Jersey stands as a vital force addressing challenges at local, national, and global levels. Through innovation, this industry is actively shaping a future where lives are healthier, environments are safer, and our world is more sustainable and productive.
