    OSHA | Docket No. OSHA-2013-0020 Request for Information for Modernization of PSM Standard

    The Chemistry Council of New Jersey (CCNJ) is pleased to respond to the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL’s) Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) notice of Request for Information (RFI), Docket No. OSHA-2013-0020, published in the Federal Register on December 9, 2013 at 78 Federal Register 73756-73768. The CCNJ represents over 70 New Jersey companies involved in the business of chemistry (pharmaceuticals, chemicals, flavors and fragrances, petroleum refining, etc.). The business of chemistry directly employs more than 50,000 persons in New Jersey and is responsible for over $25 billion dollars in revenues in New Jersey each year. CCNJ members place high value and priority on safety and security for their employees, their workplaces, and the communities that host them. The CCNJ member companies are committed to continually improving environmental, health, safety, and security performance through common sense advocacy designed to address major public policy issues, health and environmental research, and product testing.

    Public Access Bill Which Offers Protections to CCNJ Member Companies Passes Both Senate and Assembly

    The New Jersey Senate and Assembly recently passed legislation which will protect the rights of CCNJ member companies, who are located on waterfront sites, to deny public access to those sites.

    Recreational Cannabis Use Closer to Being Legal in New Jersey

    As of earlier this week, the legalization of recreational use marijuana in New Jersey is looking more likely. The Assembly Appropriations Committee and the Senate Judiciary Committee both voted to release both the recreational and medical use cannabis bills from their respective Committees. The bills are now headed for floor votes in both houses of the Legislature.

    The 2019 Annual Legislative Reception, held in Washington D.C., was once again the place to network and meet with New Jersey legislators, legislative staff, and representatives from CCNJ member companies, during the New Jersey Chamber’s Annual Walk-to-Washington. The event is co-hosted by CCNJ, PHRMA, HINJ and BIONJ.

    Legislation Regulating Drones Moves Through The Assembly Homeland Security and State Preparedness Committee

    Several bills which will regulate drone use in New Jersey were recently released by the Assembly Homeland Security and State Preparedness Committee. These bills represent an effort on behalf of New Jersey legislators to ensure that drones don’t become a hazard and are not used for nefarious purposes.

    Chemical Sector Emergency Preparedness Tabletop Exercise After Action Report

    The American Chemistry Council (ACC)-sponsored Chemical Sector Emergency Preparedness Tabletop Exercise (TTX) provided a forum to facilitate discussion and document roles, responsibilities, processes, protocols, and systems used to support an effective public-private response to emerging all-hazard threats and incidents impacting the Chemical Sector. The TTX was meant to validate and provide feedback to enhance the recently developed draft Playbook for an Effective All-Hazards Chemical Sector Response (the “Playbook”). As a joint publication of the U.S. Department of Homeland (DHS) and the Chemical Sector Coordinating Council (CSCC),1 the Playbook is intended to provide a standard operating procedure to assist the Chemical Sector in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from all-hazards emergency events.
